The Mis-Education of the Well-Meaning Liberal: Stories of the Oppressed Meets Theater for the Privileged
Seven stories told by six different writers examine the education system, race, gender, immigration, adoption, gentrification, and the scarcity of safe food and water. Producers invite the liberal community, activists, and educators out for a live performance of social justice inquisition. Donte Felder is a local educator who wrote and directed several stories in the show, “I think we are in a unique position to use our art to ask uncomfortable questions about the world we live in. The stories are poignant, powerful, courageous, and have the potential to resonate with many.”
Director Chris Mayse plays Hanson Mckensie, a Pulitzer prize-winning spirit who shares his posthumous visions for an equitably just world (though recently caught with his schmekel out in the chowder toilet). We enter a world where organic produce is only available on the black market and drinking bottled water might end with a bullet, where gender binaries don’t apply and black men are both superhero and property. The production asks – who are we without our liberal labels?
